The start of a new school year means new beginnings.
New classes. New teachers. New students. New adventures. And yes…
New mysteries.
Books, puzzles, secret codes, and all things detective aren’t just for sleuthing around the house. Mystery-loving kids and teens can turn everyday school supplies into their own detective kit.
Here are some back-to-school essentials for students who love adventure and believe there’s always something new to discover:
All students need a backpack. Period. There’s a lot to carry during the school year, including books, folders, notebooks, pencils, lunches, and technology. The list goes on.

9. Create a Homework Investigation Station
Homework just got interesting.
Transform your workspace into investigation headquarters by organizing your desk with notebooks, pencils, a calendar, a reading light, and anything else you might need to tackle school assignments.
When you’ve got a difficult question or assignment, take a page from your favorite detective's notebook:
“What do I already know?”
“What information am I missing?”
“Where can I find the answer?”
“Can I break this assignment into smaller chunks?”

Hint: it’s not found inside your student’s backpack.
Your mindset is the most important tool you’ll bring to school.
You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to know everything right away. But you do have to be willing to learn.
Ask questions. Listen. Try again. Consider other people’s ideas and remember that curiosity is something you don’t outgrow. It’s something you grow into.
10. Make This School Year an Adventure
Unknowns are exciting. Especially when they involve education.
Where will you go? What will you learn? What new passions will you discover? Who will you meet?
I don’t know about your student, but I can’t wait to find out what mystery(s) the new school year has in store for me.
So get your backpack ready, grab your notebook, and don’t forget your book.
